Do you know what your doing?

The other day I commented about an articleI read about Starbucks and I’m doing the same today.  Another of their points is to “know your values and communicate them.”  That sounds like a no brainer right?!?  Well it isn’t!  I bet you are thinking back to a church that you were unsure what their purpose was.  I mean, you never saw them out in the community, never heard stories about how they did anything outside of the 4 walls of their building, and maybe you even visited a service and still left confused.  As a church, we often forget to let people know what we are about.  That sounds strange to say but churches are about different things.  Some are about being in the community and reaching out while others aren’t (this isn’t intended to cut anyone down just stating the obvious…there’s always an opportunity to do a 180 and head another direction).  Here’s what I think would be awesome, if someone could learn what a church is about strictly by their reputation….what, that already is possible….what about if you could know what their about by attending a worship experience….here’s the catch, without the church verbally saying it….bottom line though, it really doesn’t matter how you communicate your values/goals/vision as a church, as long as it extends from your lips into life….we can’t just say it, we have to live it.  “know your values and communicate them” a lesson from starbucks, for the church.
