They are coming

For the 2 faithful readers of this blog, there are some posts coming…I’m trying to get the wireless access to work in my room and it isn’t working right at the moment…I’ll get my thoughts up here as soon as I am able!

Highlights from my Reading

1 Corinthians 5:1-WOW!  This sounds like Jerry Springer

1 Corinthians 7:3-and DR Phil thought he came up with this stuff (and yes, it’s talking about sex)

1 Corinthians 7:28-I guess because you have another person to worry about

1 Corinthians 9:22-Do all things [short of sin]–that means getting uncomfortable sometimes folks.

1 Corinthians 10:13-Not what we think we can bear, but what HE knows we can bear through HIM

1 Corinthians 10:24-It’s not all about you (or me).

1 Corinthians 10:31-Heck Yes!  Do it all baby!

Thursday Throwdown

-Leaving for vacation tomorrow!  Sweet!  Of course leaving my house at 5AM isn’t going to be nice but I’ll get over that

-Had some things change for our mission trip to New Orleans in 3 weeks…I’ve got about 6 hours to figure this thing out!

-Had a great time with my students last night.  The eating contest turned into a let’s put make up on a dude…it was still a blast though.  We went to a house to swim for a little bit.  I wasn’t getting in the pool so of course the students try to put me in the water….I totally dominated all the guys trying to show off for the ladies!!!

-Did I already mention vacation starts tomorrow?!?  Really looking forward to spending time with my wife and my two boys!  Love the memories that are made on trips like this where we have nothing to worry about except just having fun…It’s our escape

-I’m also looking forward to spending time with God on the trip….For some reason, I hear a little clearer out on the balcony watching the sun rise….Should I hear clearly all the time?!?  I don’t know, but I like having trips like this to get away from all the distractions and just re-focus…I really need that time right now!

Highlights of My Reading

1 Corinthians 1:10-Imagine what we could accomplish if we, the church, did this

1 Corinthians 1:26-He uses the ordinary!  That’s good news for me!

1 Corinthians 1:31-If you want to brag about something, brag about this.

1 Corinthians 2:4-I just have to be open as a communicator and let HIM work.

1 Corinthians 2:5-If our faith rest in what people say, we are screwed.

1 Corinthians 2:9-Oh yeah baby!

1 Corinthians 3:1-I wouldn’t want this to be said of me

1 Corinthians 3:2-3-Paul wrote this to a church.  Was he writing to ours?

1 Corinthians 3:7-It’s not about us.  We need to do our part but in the end, it’s about HIM.

1 Corinthians 4:5-How many of us need this lesson.  Quit busting chops and stay focused on what matters.

1 Corinthians 4:11-Ever been in this situation and still been on fire for God?  A good reminder!

1 Corinthians 4:12-13-How would we respond to this?

1 Corinthians 4:20-A-flippin-men!

I’m going to be sick

I don’t know why I insist on doing dumb stuff like eating contests but I do…Tonight my students and I are doing a wing eating contest…I will let the competitive drive get going and won’t stop until it all comes back up…i’m just an idiot like that…anyway, i’m sure tomorrow i’ll be struggling to move around because my entire body will just be sore…gotta love student ministry!

I feel old

So, today is my oldest sons 5th birthday….that’s right…not only did God let me reproduce another Brian Brown in the world, I have managed to keep him safe for 5 years now [mostly my wife keeping him safe though...I have no idea what I'm doing :) ]  What’s crazy to me is how fast this time has flown by…I remember bringing him home from the hospital (not to get sappy but I do)…I remember what I was wearing, how the day went, all that stuff…It feels like it was yesterday…Well it wasn’t yesterday…it was about 1825 days ago…Everyday I look at Braiden I realize that my time with him is short…my time to set the example, teach him, spend time with him is shorter than I think…I’ve got to take advantage of the bath times I get to do…the times he wants to play baseball outside…the bike rides he wants me to help with…the skined up knees he wants me to DR up….all of these moments, I have to take advantage of because one day soon, the chances will be gone…The biggest thing I want to make sure I do for my son (actually both of them–I have a 3 year old too) is to show him Jesus through me.  That is really what matters most to me….to set that example and let him see Jesus in me…For that to happen, I have to be living this out

Thursday Throwdown

-My oldest son turns 5 this Saturday!  Holy Crap!  It was scary enough that God allowed me to reproduce and its crazy 5 years have already gone by.  I really have to make the most of my time with my 2 sons…they will be gone before I know it!

-As a birthday present (not really) i’m taking my son back to the allergy DR today.  We will get the results back from the blood test and I think they are doing a skin test as well.  They are painful and it won’t be fun.

-School is out tomorrow for our county.  I will have students running all over the place for the next couple of months!!

-I went to a worship gathering yesterday hosted by Northstar ChurchMike talked about our “Desert Experiences.”  I needed what he brought!

-Trying to keep my ears open and listen!

-An extra one today…my mom went back to work yesterday and had a great first day back!  God has been awesome and faithful in helping her to recover!

Pray for Them

I don’t understand why this stuff happens….but trust that God is near!

Constantly Learning

Rick Warren is hosting a thing this week called the Purpose Drive Network Summit.  He invited a handful of guys to participate.  I’m loving technology because I’m able to listen to Rick during his sessions at the summit and I’m also able to watch Tony Morgan and Carlos interview some great leaders of the church today behind the scenes.  I’m loving the fact that I’m able to learn from some key people.  I don’t even have to go to there church or fly to California…I just have to be willing to invest a little time this week to watch and listen.  I’m grateful stuff like this happens to teach me and help me grow…If I didn’t have other leaders to learn from, I would be screwed!

Romans 12:18 ouch, this stings a little

Romans 13:13 I wonder if someone is mad that the word “orgies” is in the bible
